Every Ella piece is 18K gold plated — a fine layer of 18K gold over a base metal. A little care keeps it looking new for a lot longer.

The short version

• Put your jewellery on last — after perfume, hairspray, make-up and lotion.
• Take it off first — before showering, swimming, sleeping or working out.
• Wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing, to lift off skin oils and sweat.
• Store it dry and out of direct sunlight — in a pouch or box rather than loose in a bag, so pieces don't scratch each other.

What to keep it away from

• Water — especially chlorinated pool water and sea water.
• Perfume, deodorant, hand sanitiser and body lotion sprayed or rubbed straight onto the piece.
• Household cleaning products.
• Jewellery cleaners and polishing liquids made for solid gold or silver — these are abrasive and will strip plating.
• Hard scrubbing with rough cloths or brushes.

If the colour starts to fade

Plating wears with time. How fast depends on your skin chemistry, how often you wear the piece and what it comes into contact with. The steps above slow it down considerably.
